Summer programme NJO now available

13 mei 2022

From chamber music ensemble to full-blown opera production: the musicians of the National Youth Orchestra (NJO) will perform five different programmes this summer during the Muziekzomer Gelderland festival.

Conducted by Antony Hermus, forty NJO members will bring the opera Bluebeard's Castle on stage. With stage directions by Kenza Koutchoukali, lighting by Teus van der Stelt and the Melkfabriek in Arnhem as decor, it will have all the ingredients for a spectacular interpretation of Bartók's one-hour opera.

The NJO Symphony Orchestra with British conductor Alexander Shelley will play pieces by Britten, Richard Strauss and Mahler's Fourth Symphony. They will be joined by soloists Annemarie Kremer, Laetitia Gerards and young artist in residence Coraline Groen. The orchestra will perform this programme during the festival Muziekzomer Gelderland, in The Concertgebouw and on their tour through Berlin and Romania.

Coraline Groen plays Benjamin Britten's violin concerto with the NJO Symphony Orchestra, but takes the audience with her on a whole other experience of the piece with Passacaglia. In a compelling 360 degrees experience, Coraline shares her experience as a musician on-stage: being in the middle of the music.

With the Bramhs nonet, nine NJO members will take to the stage in a more intimate setting. The wish of one of the members of the NJO orchestra to play this piece for large chamber music ensemble, will become reality with this programme.

Finally, a selection of NJO musicians will take part in the musical theatrical family performance Het Kansrijk, (the Realm of Opportunity) in which the musicians will collaborate with young theater makers from Theater Gajes. More information about this performance will follow later.
