Extensive repertoire

Founded in 1995, the Storioni Trio performs works for piano trio, ranging from classical to contemporary, from Haydn to Henze. With years of expertise in the triple concert repertoire (Beethoven, Casella, Juon, Martinů, Moór, Voříšek), the Storioni Trio has commissioned composers such as Kevin Volans, Peter-Jan Wagemans, Nico Muhly, Kalevi Aho and Willem Jeths in recent years. The Storioni Trio is an internationally acclaimed ensemble and leading expert in the triple concerto repertoire.

In May 2019, the Storioni Trio performed the new triple concert by Finnish composer Kalevi Aho. The work was commissioned by the Storioni Trio. Also, the trio had a close relationship with the recently deceased Polish composer Penderecki. The Storioni Trio awarded composition commissions to the Australian Brett Dean, the American David Lang and the Dutch Theo Loevendie. The latter wrote the work Ming, a surprising combination of piano trio and erhu (two-string string instrument).

International network

The Storioni Trio is requested for performances in the chamber music series of Wigmore Hall, Carnegie Hall, Het Concertgebouw and at festivals such as Kuhmo, Mecklenburg Vorpommern and Osnabrück Kammermusiktage. Several tours have led the trio to India, the Middle East, Australia, Taiwan, Japan and the United States.

Top international musicians and upcoming talent shared the stage with the Storioni Trio, such as Gidon Kremer, Vadim Repin, Jean-Yves Thibaudet, Nelly Miriciou, Natalia Gutman, Mischa Maisky, Sol Gabetta, Jörg Widmann, Baiba and Lauma Skride, as well as Niek Baar, Lillie Maijala, Ella van Poucke, Bram van Sambeek and Annelien van Wauwe.

25 years of Storioni Trio

During the 2020-21 season, the Storioni Trio celebrated its 25th anniversary. Due to the COVID-19 crisis, the planned concerts with the National Youth Orchestra of the Netherlands in January 2021 were unfortunately canceled, but luckily they can now take place. Together with like-minded musicians and composers, the three members operate as a family. Their concerts allow a wide audience to enjoy live music; they belief that with music you can bridge boundaries. The Storioni Trio considers the social aspect of their musical experience to be vitally important. Together with the audience, the trio fully enjoys the tranquillity and acoustics of a concert hall as well as the contact with the audience after the concerts. The Storioni Trio increasingly performs outside the concert hall in unique spaces to discover with the audience the musical story behind the notes of old and new works.
