In August, the National Youth Orchestra of the Netherlands (NJO) led by conductor Alexandre Bloch will be bringing a symphonic programme to the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam. If they can reunite after a long time this summer, the musicians of the NJO will play a programme that radiates the desire for a free world. On the music stands are two much loved pieces in which all kinds of American music styles come together. Via the drive for freedom from Bernstein's West Side Story, the orchestra's talented conservatory students take you on a journey through Dvorák's Ninth Symphony, which he named 'From the New World' due to the fact that he wrote the work during his stay in the United States.
